En el judaísmo, el aniversario de la muerte de un progenitor o pariente cercano, que se conmemora generalmente encendiendo una vela durante toda la jornada.

Ese día se recita el kaddish en la sinagoga y se lee la Torá. Para celebrar el aniversario, algunos estudian pasajes de la Mishná, escogiendo aquellas partes de la sexta división que empiezan con las letras del nombre del difunto. El yahrzeit emanó de una antigua costumbre judía que consistía en ayunar en el aniversario de la muerte de ciertos líderes; actualmente algunos judíos todavía ayunan el día de yahrzeit.
